Hansen Intentionally Misleads Voters

Shows Insensitivity Towards Macco’s Wife, a Breast Cancer Survivor

GREEN BAY… A recent mailing sent by incumbent Senator Dave Hansen (D- Green Bay) has made accusations that Green Bay small business owner and state senate candidate John Macco (R-De Pere) supports an agenda that would “cancel cancer screenings for women.” The mailer was paid for and authorized by Hansen’s campaign committee and intentionally misleads voters. The mailer fails to mention that John Macco’s wife, Sue Macco, is herself a 5 year cancer survivor.

John Macco released the following statement regarding Hansen’s accusations: “Dave Hansen’s misleading rhetoric is hurtful to both me and my wife. Implying that I would eliminate cancer screenings for women is simply ridiculous. Living in a family that has been touched by cancer like many families across Wisconsin, I know first-hand the need for cancer screenings and preventative health care initiatives. Senator Hansen is trying to distract voters from the real issues and sling wild allegations that are simply untrue.”

Sue Macco also commented, “As a breast cancer survivor and Registered Nurse, I find this attack against my husband offensive. Throughout my battle against cancer, John was a wonderful companion and husband who stood by me through the most difficult time in my life. When our family was denied insurance coverage, John spent his entire retirement savings to give me the care I needed. I find it very distasteful that Senator Hansen would use cancer as a political ploy.”

The Committee to Elect a Republican Senate (CERS) has filed a complaint with the Government Accountability Board over the mailing, and the Macco Family is requesting an immediate apology from Hansen.
